Preventive Dentistry

All of us gifted with teeth, no one wants to lose their teeth. If possible, everyone aspires to keep them healthy. This is where preventive dentistry steps in.

While dentists are more commonly known to provide extra care for our oral health and treatment of dental problem, which can be rendered to patients when needed, preventive dentistry is focused on helping us keep our mouth, teeth and gums healthy everyday.

There have been increasing numbers of factors that causes the increase in the occurrence of dental diseases. As an action, the result of a study on fluoridation of community water was implemented. However, considering all the factors that lead to oral health problems, fluoridated water on its own is not enough to prevent dental diseases.

Bacteria in the mouth, which causes gum disease and tooth decay, eventually causes tooth loss. the bacteria in the mouth can be minimized, dramatically, through proper hygiene. Though good oral hygiene, we can also prevent gum disease and tooth decay. Proper dental hygiene includes the following.

Eating a balanced diet and limiting snacks and sodas will help you keep your gums and teeth healthy. Some food and drinks have ingredients that when accumulated inside the mouth may become irritating to the teeth and gums. Foods and drinks with lots of sugar may lead you to tooth decay. Too acidic or carbonate drinks are also harmful to the enamel. Make sure to have sufficient calcium intake to make your teeth stronger.

Regular brushing. It is highly recommended the one brushes his or her teeth at least twice a day. These will remove most of the irritants, thus preventing the development of bacteria. Use fluoride toothpaste; fluoride toothpastes help in preventing tooth decay. Brushing with the use of fluoride toothpaste regularly will also help you prevent the formation of plaques.

Flossing removes the food particles left in between the teeth. Also, it help can remove the plaques in between the teeth.

Fluoride mouthwash is also recommended. It helps in controlling plaque.

Get a professional dental cleaning and exam at least twice a year. If necessary, you may also be required to have dental sealants or have your teeth applied with fluoride treatments.

Also, a few studies have showed the relationship of dental disease and heart disease. Though there are still studies going on, a lot of the finished researches have proved that poor oral health may eventually lead to a heart disease. The bacteria in the mouth can penetrate the blood streams. These bacteria lodge in and eventually form into plaques that block the arteries in the heart. These plaques can also from in the different areas of our body such as neck and organs. When the plaques block a blood stream going to a particular organ, it will result to a serious problem since it causes lack of blood supply in that organ.

From this point, we can see how important preventive dentistry is. The above mentioned oral health hygiene can help you prevent oral diseases, and further, and more serious health problems.

Periodontonlogy and Women

Women are as careful with their oral health as with the opposite sex. However, a woman’s oral care needs changes throughout her life. The factor that caused these is the hormonal fluctuations of a woman that occurs as she gets older. These changes affect the tissues including the gum tissues of women.

Periodontal disease may affect any person of any age; however, since this kind of disease may not be realized soon, it gets worse specially if not treated immediately. Around 33 percent of women of the age range 30 to 90 have periodontitis. Periodontitis is a periodontal disease in a state where the condition has progressed into an advanced state.

The hormonal changes in a woman cause her to be more prone to periodontal diseases. Below are some of the important hormonal stages a woman goes through her life. The list below also includes the effects of hormonal fluctuations in a woman’s oral health and some of oral care tips a woman needs to apply during these stages.

At puberty, a lot of people notice the physical changes in a woman that occur at this stage. The sex hormones are increased at this stage. The increase in sex hormones leads to increased circulation of blood in the gums, which ma eventually cause enhancement in gum sensitivity and irritation. At this stage, gums have high tendencies to show swellings, redness, and may feel tender. After the puberty stage, the gum sensitivity will eventually lessen.

During this stage, regular brushing and flossing is highly recommended. Also, a regular visit to the dentist will help you prevent periodontal diseases or treatment in case a periodontal disease has occurred.

While menstruation is linked to puberty, the hormonal fluctuations at this stage also cause oral health problems. Gingivitis is occasionally noticed in some women before their period, and starts to go away after.

Pregnancy causes oral health problems to last for quite a period of time. Pregnancy gingivitis occurs from the second or third month and can get worse as it persists until the eight month of pregnancy. Women who have gingivitis prior their pregnancy have a high risk of having their oral condition get severe. Some of the oral problems they experience are swellings, redness, bleedings, and tenderness of the gums.

During pregnancy, women are very sensitive to gum irritants that these may cause the formation of lumps. These are pregnancy tumors are not really dangerous, but if these persist for extended periods of time, a periodontist’s attention is needed.

Also, periodontal diseases are some of the causes why babies are born short of months or are too small or too light. It is recommended t those who plan to get pregnant to have periodontal evaluations. Also, don’t forget to continue a good oral care practice such as regular brushing and flossing.

During the menopausal stage and post menopausal stage, women will notice changes in their mouths. These changes include discomfort, dryness, pain in the gum areas, weakening of some taste glands.

Menopausal gingivostomatitis affects few women. This condition is caused by the changes in estrogen level.

Oral contraceptives may also cause oral health problems.

While bone problems are associated mostly with osteoporosis, periodontal diseases can also lead to bone loss. Though there is yet a research that proves this, it is highly recommended that everyone takes good care of their dental condition.

Recently, I was eating pizza when suddenly I bit down on something very hard. When I first looked at it I thought it was a piece of bone or something, but when I felt a chunk of my tooth was missing I knew I had broken off a big part of a molar. It was very frustrating since I don’t particularly care to go to the dentist.

I work in Lincolnwood so I decided to find a dentist that I could visit during my lunch break. I was so happy to find a local dentist who worked so quickly and best of all – pain free. I didn’t visit a sedation dentist, but he was very talented. It took two visits; The first visit was to identify the problem and xrays and the second visit was to repair the tooth. Both visits were very quick and I think I was in the Lincolnwood dentist office around an hour – total time.

One of the most popular and effective dental marketing techniques is to send postcards. Postcards can be sent to existing patients and to targeted markets to generate new patients. A successful dental direct mail campaign will lead to several new patients that you will have a relationship with for years. To increase the chances of success you should not create your marketing postcard yourself. It is not very expensive to have someone in the industry to it for you and once it is built you can keep using it over and over. You will also want to use a quality dental direct mail company to send your postcards.

Diane recently went to a new dentist because he was located just a few minutes from her work. Over the years she had been going to dentists located in Milwaukee, but she decided to make an exception and go with someone new to save time.

This dentist, who did not know her, said she needed two cavities filled and that she also had a few dozen holes in her teeth. He explained that the holes were defects in the enamel that should have been fixed many years earlier. It was going to cost quite a bit of money.

Worried, Diane decided to visit another dentist that was also close to work and this dentist confirmed the two cavities, but said there was no need to fill the very tiny holes in her enamel. Now, Diane was confused so she decided to return to her lifelong Milwaukee dentist and see what he had to say. She trusts him not only because she had been going to his office for many years, but his office was local and while it was nice and modern – it wasn’t too flashy. This dentist confirmed that the holes in her teeth were of no concern.

Sometimes, it is best to stay with the local, trusted dentists.

Cosmetic dental treatments, or cosmetic dentistry, have dramatic impact on people nowadays. People have become more open to their problems with their teeth, mouth, and smile. Not that long ago, people were embarrassed to discuss these problems with professionals. Back then, a lot of people would simply try to hide these problems that caused them to have troubles relating to other people. These are also reasons why a lot of people don’t have self confidence.

There has been a boom in cosmetic surgeries. Not only people who have been having these problems for a long time, but also those gifted with such wonderful smiles and teeth are into cosmetic dental treatments. It is because of their carelessness in the food they eat, drinks they take, and vices they do.

Let us face it; smile is one of the important aspects that leave that impressive impression on other people. An addition to that, smile is one of the best ways to deal with certain situations. By smiling, we give that kind of look that we are friendly; sometimes it helps us to calm ourselves. To have that wonderful smile, a white and perfectly aligned tooth is one requirement. It shows other people your oral hygiene.

The inborn oral problems have been a problem to a lot of people. While there are many who are gifted with nice looking teeth and smile, a lot more needs to consult a dentist to help them “fix” these factors that affects more than one aspect of their lives. Nowadays, we have cosmetic dentistry. This helps people brighten up their personalities.

US cosmetic dental treatments have affected other countries in their traditional dentistry. The US cosmetic dentistry has become a model that a lot of countries follow. The United States of America has advances in technology that gave their branches in medical studies gains. From the procedures to the materials used, US cosmetic dentistry has showed that enhancement of smile and teeth can be done safer, with much better materials, too.

With today’s cosmetic dentistry, dental treatments are now performed easier and a lot more effective than before. With only a few visits to the dentist, most dental problems can be solved such as tooth replacement, whitening, and realigning. Also, the improvement of the procedures is being restudied to perform non-surgical cosmetic dentistry.

This has brought hope to a lot of people. The possibility of having their oral problems get solved seems to be within their reach. Also, who wouldn’t want a near to perfect smile? It affects us, it affects the people around us, it affects our way to relating to them. A lot of things can happen when one gains self esteem. It gives them courage in meeting people. It gives them the confidence they need when they are in a situation where they need to somehow put a good relationship. There is nothing wrong in trying to improve how you look, just as there is nothing wrong in trying to enhance your personality.

Cosmetic Dentistry: A Healthy Face Rejuvenation

Everyone knows that a smile is one of the most important things. It doesn’t simply imply your oral health; it also affects your way of relating to other people. However, with our addiction to foods and drinks such as coffee, cola, tea, and sweet, some vices such as wines and cigarettes, and medications we have taken or need to take, acquiring a white smile is just a little too hard with toothpastes and proper cleaning.

Cosmetic dentistry is a dental treatment that enhances the appearance of teeth and mouth. This definition led to the more common description of cosmetic dentistry, which is smile improvement. This innovation was actually first realized in 3000 BC. With the help of technology, cosmetic dentistry has reached its today’s reputation. The US cosmetic dentistry is sophisticated because of their advances in technology.

Cosmetic dentistry is a dental study that has combined oral health and art. In helps enhance not only the physical appearance of one person but also that person’s health. This has also become an option to people who are trying to improve their confidence. It is true that first impressions have that kind of impact that we don’t forget. One of the important factors of the “first impressions” is one’s smile.

Many people are born with a beautiful smile and perfect teeth, however, a lot more can get help from a dentist. The following are some of the services offered in this specialization in medicine.

    * Teeth bleaching is for whitening
* Repair is for problems with chips, rough spots and cavities.
* Reshaping tooth/teeth
* Aligning
* Closing gaps
* Dental implants

While the services offered are recommended for almost everyone, it is still important that people are very careful. The US cosmetic dentistry has the following guidelines for people looking for dentists.

    * As the patient, you must be sure that your dentist is associated with all the procedures such as check ups, and surgery. If possible choose a qualified dentist. Always keep in mind that it is important that the dentist has experience in performing cosmetic dentistry, if possible, using the modern technology in his recent surgeries.
* Just like in almost everything that provides us benefits, cosmetic dentistry is also associated with some threats. Know these threats by talking to your dentist.
* Following the recommended name/s in the advertisements may not always be a good option. If you have a family physician, or if you know someone who can refer a dentist, the better.
* While low pricing has made its way to produce quality results, cosmetic dentistry uses materials that are of high cost. While there are still studies for cheaper alternatives going and are yet to be finalized, discuss the quality of the results and not the cost.

The above mentioned guidelines will be of great help if you personally don’t know a dentist. Being cautious should be always in the consideration. Nothing is wrong wanting to have a more impressive smile, better oral health condition. One just has to be careful enough to avoid the threats as much as possible.
